At the end of 2023, we sent out a survey to the community about the gate. We didn’t receive enough responses to make an informed decision, so it remained status quo. Fast forward through a year of never-ending gate issues, and the board felt it was worth a follow up survey.
Let’s discuss the money part…
- $35,000+ was spent on the gate last year to get it fully operational
- Nothing was spent from 2023-2024 as the gate was not operational for the entire year.
- Each prior year approximately $5,000 was spent on the gates. Some years more, some a little less.
- Depending on whether we have a massive hurricane or storm, we stand the possibility of spending another $35,000 if it is wiped out at any point.
- Since we have a single entry, SOME Homeowner’s insurance rates will not be affected whether we have a gate or not. You must check with your carrier.
Let’s discuss security…
- Sales crews are dropped off at the entrance and canvass the neighborhood at will, even though there is a sign AND WE HAVE GATES.
- Residents have shared the vendor code on garage sale signs, so anyone who came through has that code
- The gates only keep out honest people.
It is this board’s belief that these gates are an expenditure we don’t need. If we take a moment and think… We could have renovated the pool bricks by now and added a small kitchen with that money. Or we could have a stunning entry way redone. Or, our dues could have been lowered.
The board would like as many responses by February 15, 2025. Our goal is to receive a minimum of 75 homeowner responses. Please take the survey below: Limited to one vote per household.
